John Baker: Raumati South, Kapiti, New Zealand; John is an artist who has lived in Africa for many years. He was brought up on a farm, spent long periods in the African bush, mines and remote rural areas nurturing a love for things African. John has exhibited in England, Zimbabwe, South Africa, United States and New Zealand. John painted initially in oils and now in water-based oils. Subjects range from wild life, portraits, fish (being a keen fisherman) and still life. “I seek to capture on canvas the focal characteristics in people, animals and objects creating an intimacy or connection between the viewer and the painting.” John held his first exhibition in New Zealand in June 2004. Over 30 paintings were exhibited. Just on 50%, by value, of the paintings were sold. John is available to paint on commission and is contactable by email at artofjohnbaker@gmail.com
